Catherine Feary

Background & Experience

Starting out at the tender age of 7 Catherine learned classical guitar and the recorder. Music was a passion from a very young age and Catherine loved nothing better than performing for whole school assemblies and taking part in local concerts held by her private music tutor. Realising from the age of 11 that she wanted to some day teach guitar for herself Catherine worked through the grades Gaining merits and distinctions.

After full time education Catherine began a secretarial career lasting 5 years, only taking a break from work to raise a family. During this break she decided to dust up old skills learnt on the guitar, and also began learning piano.

Finding new direction and purpose with her music again began using free time to practice endlessly and take her piano grades over several years, whilst bringing up 4 demanding children!

Huge satisfaction was found whilst teaching her own children music, and the sense of pride and achievement seeing her boys excel at guitar and piano to grade 5 spurred Catherine to volunteer at the local Junior School when the regular guitar teacher quit.

Over time, local interest grew with regard to private music lessons, and from that came interest with piano tuition.

Catherine now teaches over 32 students privately, and feels she relates well to children of all ages. Firmly believing that every student learns ‘differently’ therefore the method of teaching should be molded around the learning capabilities of the student. Helping each pupil reach his or her best potential and passing on a love of music to each and every student.

A mug shot of me at the family piano! Our Yamaha upright is much loved and used. This piano is not situated in the music room.

The students enjoy using the Yamaha electric piano, with all it's features in the music room.
